Frank was born in Durham, England, on the 1st October 1879. He enlisted in Windsor, Ontario, 13th November 1915, stating his occupation as a labourer, and his next of kin as his brother, Sam Williamson, of the Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport, England. He had previously served for seven years in the Royal Marine Light Infantry.
He was five feet ten inches in height, had a fresh complexion, grey eyes and brown hair, and belonged to the Church of England. He had a scar under his chin.
